Microsoft appears to be very serious about the long-term success of its Surface tablet. The first Surface hasn’t launched and already Microsoft is advertising for employees that can help it develop the next generation of Surfaces.
More than a dozen such jobs have been posted on the Microsoft Careers site since June, calling for additions to the team that is “currently building the next generation of devices that fully express the Windows vision.” They all say:
“The Surface Team focuses on lighting up Microsoft experiences with touch first computing. A fundamental part of our strategy is having desirable and powerful devices that enable the experiences people want, and elicit their excitement. Creating these devices involves a close partnership between hardware and software engineers, designers, and manufacturing. We are currently building the next generation and Surface needs you!”
Acer, which said this week that Microsoft should rethink its strategy of making Windows 8 tablets, better figure out a strategy that includes competing against its Windows partner. Microsoft is thinking long term for the Surface.
