If you had any questions on why the major music labels would partner with YouTube for the upcoming Vevo music video site, ponder no more.

Recent research from TubeMogul shows that the labels are leading the way on YouTube – no one comes close to touching their music video views.

*Univision’s numbers come from the company’s report in February and are likely to be larger but are hard to track because the vast majority of the Univision content on YouTube is pirated and often taken down and then reloaded.

According to the researcher, the top five labels control 64.52% of all of the views of YouTube’s top 50 and are the top five publishers of all time.

Universal Music has seen 8.7 billion views but hasn’t made much money off the service.

The demand is obviously there, and Vevo can’t get here soon enough for the labels.
