Recessions come and recessions go, but consumer demand for mobile phones that connect to the Internet continues to increase rapidly. Strategy Analytics reports that global sales of smartphones increased 30% in the fourth quarter from a year earlier to 53 million units.
The company said Nokia (39.2% market share), RIM and its BlackBerrys (20.2%) and Apple (up 5% to 16.4%) are still the market share leaders.
